The start of a new year is a good time to look at your pets overall health. One of the easiest body characteristics for owners to evaluate at home is obesity. It has been estimated that canine obesity is between 22 and 44 percent and feline between 19 and 52 percent. The root cause of pets being overweight is an imbalance between dietary intake and activity. Being overweight may predispose your dog or cat to orthopedic disease, diabetes, heart disease, urinary problems and some cancers. Effective weight reduction and maintenance of optimum weight depends on many factors. Gradual weight loss, with careful attention to diet and exercise offers the best success. Please feel free to include us in your pets weight loss goals. We want to be your partner and can offer valuable information, prescription diets and diet aids if needed. You may feel free to stop by our office for pet weigh-ins during business hours.
